German Genealogy
Teutonic Mythology This series is the most exhaustive compendium of German and Norse mythology and a milestone in the study of comparative mythology and religion. Indispensable for students and scholars of folklore, cultural history, and literature, this work remains the definitive basis for further research into the field. Volume IV of the four-volume set includes: Supplement (collected from Grimm's posthumous notes) to the text and to the author's preface in Vol. III, Appendix by the author, Anglo-Saxon Genealogies, Superstitions, Spells, Index.
Romantic Poetry and the Fragmentary Imperative: Schlegel, Byron, Joyce, Blanchot "Romantic Poetry and the Fragmentary Imperative locates Byron (and to a lesser extent, Joyce) within a genealogy of romantic poetry understood not so much as imaginative self-expression or ideological case study but rather as what the German romantics call ""romantische poesie"--" an experimental form of poetry loosely based on the fragmentary flexibility and acute critical self-consciousness of Socratic dialogue. The book is therefore less an attempt to present yet another theory of romanticism than it is an effort to recover a more precise sense of the relationship between Byron's fragmentary or "workless" poetic and romantic poetry generally, and to articulate connections between romantic poetry and modern literature and literary theory. The book also argues that the "exigency" or "imperative" of the fragmentary works of Schlegel, Byron, Joyce, and Blanchot is not so much the expression of a "style as it is an acknowledgement of what remains unthought in thinking.
On the Genealogy of Morals - On the Genealogy of Morals (translation of 'Zur Genealogie der Moral', sometimes translated 'On the Geneology of Morality), is a polemic written by the 19th century German philosopher and philologist Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche in 1887. Central German - Central German (in German: Mitteldeutsch, or rarely Zentraldeutsch) is a group of High German dialects spread from the Rhineland to Thuringia, south of Low German and north of Upper German. In older textbooks, Central German is sometimes called Middle German. High German consonant shift - In historical linguistics, the High German consonant shift or Second Germanic consonant shift (German: hochdeutsche or zweite germanische Lautverschiebung) was a phonological development (sound change) which took place in the southern dialects of German in several phases, probably beginning between the 3rd and 5th centuries AD, and was almost complete before the earliest written records in the German language were made in the 9th century. The resulting language was Old High German, which can neatly be contrasted with the Northern German ... Paul Ree - Dr. Paul Ree is best known for his friendship with the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, whom the latter criticized in the preface of On the Genealogy of Morals.
